It's a long and winding road up the mountain to get here, but it's all worth the drive! It's breathtaking beautiful up here. The air up here is wonderful. The campground was clean and instructions easy. There are restrooms around thecampsited that's easy to get to, also fairly clean. There are fire pits and the ground is not hard to stake your tent down into. Beautiful trees, lots of oaks. There is a small Cafe/shop across the street if you need anything. The guy running the store is super friendly and helpful. There are absolutely no lights around the campsite after dark so be sure to bring your own. Saw some squirrels, heard some woodpeckers and other various birds, but didn't see any other animals, although I have heard others seeing bigger animals on the campground. It is bear country, but luckily didn't run into any. It is amazing to look at the stars at night up here! The wind was very high later in the night. It's a great spot for camping!
Great place to go camping.
Quiet during the week and no cell service, dogs allowed, up to 14 day stays at 12$ a night. Plenty of shaded camping spots with water spouts and a fire pit. Trash cans and restrooms are easily accessible from all sites with a small walk. Best not to camp directly next to restroom. The little store is convenient and the people are nice.
Very nice campground with a lot of beautiful hiking possibilities all around. The camp is situated on about 5,000ft elevation and the hills above are around 8,000ft. There is drinking water and fire pits. There is a small store at the entrance. There are a few basic restrooms.
I have stayed in the cabins many times and the campground . The best part of my stay was meeting Adam, the owner and manager of the campground. He is such a cool and nice guy. He makes the best chili I ever tasted. He also cooks delicious breakfast for the guests every morning. He is very generous and hospitable.
Great camping that is close to LA, approximately one hour to get here. Walking distance to the lake 15-20 minutes. Campground doesn’t have a river or stream. Lots of tree coverage and bathrooms. Bathrooms could be cleaned and stocked with more toilet paper. Overall a creative peaceful place to tent or motor home camp.
My family and I ended up here by accident on a venture to go fishing! No regrets. Several trails and neat little areas to set up a bonfire and enjoy each other’s company. The view from the trail that leads to the lake (picture 1) is breathtaking! Make sure to plan well ahead of time though, because cell signal may waver in and out. Overall, it was a truly energetic and enjoyable time at this location.
An amazing place to feel like you are truly in the wilderness. I do wilderness survival camps here at Crystal Lake as it's one place that has everything I need to educate and train kids in wilderness survival. Surrounded by mountains on all sides. The campgrounds are all situated in the bowl of the mountains. Most of the campsites are well maintained and more private than other campgrounds. It's also a place if you are not well prepared for camping goods or even need a good meal, you have the Cafe which has awesome home-cooked food to order. It also provides you peace of mind if you happen to. have an emergency.
Bear named Chili is wayyyyy too comfortable visiting your tent/picnic table/cooler and taking whatever he finds edible. Everyone said he was only interested in food which proved true, but be bear aware, keep your area clean, and know he might visit your tent at night.
Apparently rangers rarely come thru this area and lots of folks don’t pay to camp since they know they won’t get fined. Facilities are ok—could use some love; pit-toilets only, most faucets in bathrooms don’t work, but water stations around the loops are operable.
Market/cafe is a nice fail safe if you forgot anything or want to buy wood.
No swimming in the lake, but lots of great hiking trails to explore.
